New documentary shows insider view of art auction life

Art insiders flocked to a MoMA premiere of HBO’s new doc “The Price of Everything.”

The behind-the-scenes view of the art world includes firsthand accounts of artists, auctioneers, collectors, dealers, critics and curators.

Spotted at the screening were artists Marilyn Minter, Laurie Simmons, George Condo, Clifford Ross and Larry Poons, as well as collector Leon Black, Sotheby’s chairman of fine art Amy Cappellazzo and LA curator Paul Schimmel. Nathaniel Kahn directed the film.

HBO’s Richard Plepler remarked, “Artists are our best response to what we are seeing in our political climate today . . . They are our last best hope.”
