Capital City Art & Craft Show returns this weekend
The Kanawha City Lions Club’s annual Capital City Art & Craft Show will mark its 51st year at the recently renovated Charleston Coliseum and Convention Center for three days this month.
The yearly event at the erstwhile Charleston Civic Center will again feature dozens of area, regional and craftspeople, artisans, business owners and others from West Virginia and six other states, unveiling a variety of decor, holiday gift-giving and every items to browse and purchase.
Many of the exhibitors will offer onsite demonstrations of their creative talents. Jewelry, pottery, photographs, fine arts, sweets, treats and stone and metal sculpture are only a small sampling of the merchandise that will be available during the three-day event.
The Country Kitchen will offer fall favorites and vendors will provide specialty food items. Other West Virginia-made comestibles for sale will include jellies, jams, dips, salsa, sauces, pickles, meatballs, cakes and wine.
Regional authors will have their books for sale, with signings of their works available.
The Kanawha City Lions host a coloring contest and other supervised activities for children throughout the show, permitting the youngsters’ parents and other caregivers to explore the aisles of arts and crafts items at the venue at a more leisurely and undistracted pace.
Proceeds from the Capital City Art & Craft Show go to support the Kanawha City Lions Club’s ongoing, year-round sight, sight conservation, student and other civic programs. Since the show’s inception more than a half-century ago, the Lions Club has used the proceeds to donate more than $1.5 million dollars to state and local charities, along with providing more than $100,000 in eyeglasses to local residents.
Those attending the show are encouraged to bring nonperishable food products, which are given to area food pantries. Through this largesse, the Kanawha City Lions have collected several thousand pounds of food annually to help those in need.
The 2018 Capital City Art & Craft Show will open on Friday, Nov. 16, with hours to the public from 4 to 10 p.m. The show will continue from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 17. Art & Craft Show hours on Sunday, Nov. 18, will be noon to 6 p.m.
Daily admission tickets are $6 for adults and $2 for children under age 12.
