“Science is the foundation of our knowledge on this planet. We have to have science to know true facts. With the parade we are supporting science, but also the arts. There are different kinds of learners out there and science and art work together. It takes a lot of science to design these artistic costumes,” said Wren Underwood, right, the event coordinator for the Procession of the Species Saturday, October 27, 2018, at the fifth annual Indian River Lagoon Science Festival at Veterans Memorial Park in Fort Pierce. The festival featured more than 70 exhibitors from across the Treasure Coast, food trucks and hands-on activities exploring science, technology, engineering, art and math. The Procession of the Species was a parade where people masqueraded as their favorite plants, animals or earth elements.
