A portrait in paint and sound is highlighting homelessness in a new exhibition

A portrait in sound and paint aims to highlight the plight of the homeless at an upcoming art show.

Painter Andrea Tyrimos will exhibit her portrait of an ex-Centrepoint resident called Catherine alongside a recording of her experience of homelessness.

Ms Tyrimos, who studied at Central St Martins, said the idea was “fuelled by personal experience”.

She said: “Whilst volunteering at a homeless shelter it soon became clear that homelessness and mental health are intertwined. It was a natural progression therefore for me to try to use my art to highlight both issues in this upcoming installation – looking at different ways to tell a story that as a society we’ve already heard, yet not enough is being done about it.

“The installation provides an immersive experience as it will enable the visitor to not only engage with Catherine visually, but to also listen to her words – to hear how a break down in family relationships left her without a home, and this in turn escalated her mental health issues”.

The display is part of the free Roy’s People Art Fair which sees 80 artists showing work over four days at OXO Tower Wharf from November 1.
